grimmy. . .and some rambling

so today i visit the chief's blog and remember that i haven't viewed a grimmy cartoon in a while. . .so i visit the site. funny comic today (1/30/06). 2 mountains with indians (native american indians, not indian indians. . .they all work for dell support) and one mountain has a smoke signal going up and the other mountain has no smoke signal and the one indian who is holding 2 logs in his hands says to his friend, "i'd like to answer him...but i've only got two bars". in my opinion, this beats the famous squeak comic, but then, i never really understood that one anyway. funny watching the chief react by smacking the nearest table. . .in a similar way to canadian government, but let's not go there.

super bowl xl is coming up here in motown. thrilling. fortunately for me, all the traffic will be far from my dwelling. . .and i'm only a few blocks from church, so no trouble getting there on sunday. i grew up despising the steelers and laughing at the seahawks. . .so i'm not really cheering for either side. some say they want to see bettis win. . .others say that it would be better for the team who played consistently well all season long to be rewarded. i kinda like watching the stealers gadget plays (aka jr. high trick plays). i think they will end up winning, but at least it should be a close game. if seattle can get ahead in the first half, they will win without a doubt.

and i hear that my kings are doing better than usual in hockey this year. . .but i don't care about hockey anymore, so this really doesn't affect me one way or another. i'd rate this news up there with a newspaper article on flowering broccoli. it doesn't make me sad, but neither is it worth getting excited about. report it and get on.

today was hobo day at school. at times it was difficult to perceive any change in appearance or behavior from a regular day at school. the trash-picking relay was definitely a highlight. tomorrow is super hero day. i shall be disguised as mr. compaq for reasons that will go unmentioned at this point. trust you me, if i had an ibm shirt, it would be the shirt of choice. compaq's reputation isn't as strong with me as it once was. byerspcteacher likes his desktop, but my laptop kept crashing. hint in life: don't buy a compaq laptop without getting the extended service agreement.

the warrior child believes if he is nice to me, i will buy him more "color books". "color books" is his description of a series of character-building stories featuring animals. each book has a distinct color theme on the cover...hence the name. i have been telling him recently that we can't buy them all because they cost dollars. he is sure i have enough dollars to get him the entire set. i got him one a couple of weeks ago when i stayed the night in his room. he has invited me to stay again for the next couple weeks so that he can get all of the books. as a praise, the Lord provided an extra financial blessing recently which i told him might result in the purchase of another book. i think this may affect his prayer life.

my Jesus, i love Thee

today we sang this familiar hymn and for the first time i looked down to see the author Ralph Featherston and the years of his life: 1846-1873. he didn't even live to be 30, yet he penned some very meaningful words. most believe he wrote this hymn shortly after his conversion at the age of 16. i tried to find out the cause of his death and haven't been able to track it down. email me if you know something about him or his history. it seems a little more than ironic that a teenager who would die before turning 30 wrote the following:

I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

it has been a year

since my father graduated to see his Savior. it is difficult to believe that it has already been a year and i'm certain that it has been his best year. my mom heard amazing grace in the car this morning on her way to work and mused on the line "when we've been there 10,000 years. . ." that dad has one down and 9,999 yet to go to fulfill that. in 8th grade we started discussing joel this week and today began our study of the "day of the Lord". end-time prophecies are becoming more and more blessed to me.

was life meant to be fair?

those that speak about life being fair are obviously not parents. perhaps i have mentioned this before, but if so it is worthy of repetition. i'm not complaining. i enjoy being a parent. and as a parent it is obvious to me that there is nothing fair about life. no matter how much effort i put into making my children happy, they will find something to complain about or something to continually beg for. i've also witnessed that when a child gets sick in the middle of the night, he will fuss and complain about it and still fight sleep even though he was the one that caused the mess and will not be the one to clean it up. i, therefore, submit that life was not meant to be fair. perhaps God uses this to reveal what we look like to Him. . .or perhaps this is just another way that He shows His sense of humor.
