podcasting

we have entered that strange and demented time of the year known by excited parents everywhere at "back-to-school" time. granted, i enjoy shopping for school supplies (i just bought an 18 pack of retractable gel pens and 3 bags of beef jerky today!), but the thought of wearing a tie every day again just isn't exciting me. . .and i'm not really looking forward to the end of summer. but that's life in these here parts.

as for seminary life, i get to go back to learning hebrew this semester. that's always a blessing.

been spending a lot of time on podcasting lately. i've done some extensive testing using a silver ipod mini (i named him "bullet"). there is a link around here somewhere if you want to get one free for yourself. anyway, podcasting is a lot of fun and i plan on sharing my learnings soon. i also hope to get some decent, worthwhile content up tomorrow or tuesday and launch "pcpodcasting". mbyers has already agreed to co-host the cast and his brother has agreed to make periodic guest appearances. i also have contacted some technology-jukies to maybe contribute from time to time and would be interested in potentially getting some students to cast from time to time. perhaps we will host a contest and the winner will get . . . (fill in the blank space here with something cheap. . .i mean inexpensive).

the other day a pastor called into the bookstore and asked for a book titled, "lies women tell". he was slightly embarrassed when my mother-in-law asked, "do you mean 'lies women believe'?" what may have started out as a simple mistake/accident, has got my brain working on a new chapter in my unpublished book. i'm sure there will be a quick rebuttal by the female crowd (aka "the wife") with several chapters on "lies men tell". actually, i can imagine a whole series. volume 1: lies men tell. volume 2: lies men tell that women don't believe. volume 3: lies men tell that other men don't believe. volume 4: lies men tell that eventually they believe. etc. etc.

so far, my all-time favorite lie that i've heard several women tell is: "i'll just be a minute".
what exactly does this mean? i have yet to figure out where this line came from. whatever they are doing (going to the bathroom, putting on makeup, redoing their hair for the 8th time) is going to take more than a minute, so why do they think lying about it is going to make us feel better? this actually makes the situation far worse. now they have not only put us off, but they have also lied and missed a self-imposed deadline. the meter is running from the moment they say that and they just keep adding to the misery of the moment. i just don't get it.

please feel free to send me your favorites as well. . .even if you are a woman. send all suggestions to dave@daveandnic.com . . . and all flame to bill.gates@microsoft.com or sjobs@apple.com

coffee machines

i'm loving my new coffee machines. one is for frozen coffee, the other for the warmer counterpart. below is a picture of me enjoying the first-fruits from my new gevalia 2 cup machine. with a little sugar added, it was a great cup.

still need to finish blogging about the trip to denver. . .and about the potential next trip in september.

rss feeds

i've been somewhat fascinated/preoccupied with rss feeds recently. i got excited about rss a few months ago and started using mozilla thunderbird for organizing my feeds. what has me geeked about them now is the new wave of audio downloads called podcasting that takes rss feeds to a new level. i did some research on the how-tos of podcasting last week and have been doing testing (research and development has always been my favorite job) with an ipod mini (named bullet) this week. so it brings me great joy to share rss feeds for our blogs (this blog: http://www.daveandnic.com/blog/rss.asp and nic's blog: http://www.daveandnic.com/nicblog/rss.asp).

for those interested in obtaining a free ipod, please follow these linked instructions. before you freak out and give into the temptation to believe this is a scam (which i did the first 20 times i saw this), let me reassure you that some good friends of mine have already received free ipods through this easy system. basically, you register and complete an offer, then have 5 other people do the same. sounds like a pyramid, but it all stops there for you. the offer i signed up for didn't cost me a cent.

lots of things i need to post, but i lack the time. pictures are coming. site redesign is coming.
