podcasting

we have entered that strange and demented time of the year known by excited parents everywhere at "back-to-school" time. granted, i enjoy shopping for school supplies (i just bought an 18 pack of retractable gel pens and 3 bags of beef jerky today!), but the thought of wearing a tie every day again just isn't exciting me. . .and i'm not really looking forward to the end of summer. but that's life in these here parts.

as for seminary life, i get to go back to learning hebrew this semester. that's always a blessing.

been spending a lot of time on podcasting lately. i've done some extensive testing using a silver ipod mini (i named him "bullet"). there is a link around here somewhere if you want to get one free for yourself. anyway, podcasting is a lot of fun and i plan on sharing my learnings soon. i also hope to get some decent, worthwhile content up tomorrow or tuesday and launch "pcpodcasting". mbyers has already agreed to co-host the cast and his brother has agreed to make periodic guest appearances. i also have contacted some technology-jukies to maybe contribute from time to time and would be interested in potentially getting some students to cast from time to time. perhaps we will host a contest and the winner will get . . . (fill in the blank space here with something cheap. . .i mean inexpensive).

the other day a pastor called into the bookstore and asked for a book titled, "lies women tell". he was slightly embarrassed when my mother-in-law asked, "do you mean 'lies women believe'?" what may have started out as a simple mistake/accident, has got my brain working on a new chapter in my unpublished book. i'm sure there will be a quick rebuttal by the female crowd (aka "the wife") with several chapters on "lies men tell". actually, i can imagine a whole series. volume 1: lies men tell. volume 2: lies men tell that women don't believe. volume 3: lies men tell that other men don't believe. volume 4: lies men tell that eventually they believe. etc. etc.

so far, my all-time favorite lie that i've heard several women tell is: "i'll just be a minute".
what exactly does this mean? i have yet to figure out where this line came from. whatever they are doing (going to the bathroom, putting on makeup, redoing their hair for the 8th time) is going to take more than a minute, so why do they think lying about it is going to make us feel better? this actually makes the situation far worse. now they have not only put us off, but they have also lied and missed a self-imposed deadline. the meter is running from the moment they say that and they just keep adding to the misery of the moment. i just don't get it.

please feel free to send me your favorites as well. . .even if you are a woman. send all suggestions to dave@daveandnic.com . . . and all flame to bill.gates@microsoft.com or sjobs@apple.com

more later. . .

peace and java
