countdown

when i was in college, i used to post a countdown on my dorm room door. it was a grid with the months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds until the next vacation from school. before getting married, i made a similar countdown. i would get excited anytime the next milestone was less than a million seconds away. my roommates treated me like an id10t at first, but then they would get into it as well. i'm thinking about this because the other day someone asked me about the countdown till dalton is born. i told him that i hadn't even considered making one since our kids never cooperate with schedules and end up coming earlier than we expect. . .so it would be difficult to predict the moment on which to base a countdown.

the same is true about death. impossible to know when it will happen. and also the return of Christ. it would be cool to know when He is coming to take us to His presence, but the longing for that moment should certainly be greater than our longing for the day that our children will be born. it seems easier to be excited about things that we can see, but those are not the things we are told to value or treasure. it is also difficult when we "lose" something or someone since our sense of values often is based on things/people that we can interact with.

please pray for will and rachel. . .even if you don't know who they are. they have recently "lost" their unborn child. we know that God is using this in all of our lives for our good and His glory, but it can be difficult to remember that when in the midst of a trying circumstance. fortunately, we are not alone. i can attest to the grace of God working to bring about right responses and proper balance while life seems out of balance and "unfair". . .even in the loss of an unknown child.

more later. . .
peace and java
