growing up

praise: the kids are in bed for the night-that's always a wonderful thing!!

prayer: auburn is teething (still). she's been working on these teeth for about a month now. i can actually see the prongs of one of her molars under her gum, but they have yet to break through. poor little girl. i can't wait to have them break through-then maybe i can have my happy girl back.

playfulness: the happy girl thing may be a lost characteristic lasting longer than the teeth issue. auburn has increasingly been showing her depravity. she's beginning to act like her brother. landon had real issues this morning. i know that it didn't help having his cousins here, but he was out of control. auburn has been demanding her independence. unfortunately, she's not really ready for it in so many ways. they are definitely stretching me and causing me to trust God and ask for wisdom much more often.

my little man is growing up much to quickly. just a few moments ago, i went to give him a glass of water, and i asked him "what do you say?". his response (in a very dignified tone) "thank you, mother." don't know if i'm ready for the mother-bit. i think i prefer "mom" or "mommy" still at this stage of life.

we celebrated landon's freedom to begin eating dairy again by going to dairy queen today. landon has been looking forward to his ice cream cone now for over a week. he did a great job this past month, and honestly, i do not remember him complaining about it even once. he even came to the point that he was asking "does that have dairy in it?" when he came across something new. i think we may have problems with the "dairy-but-reduced-quantity" stage, though. he's already been begging for more dairy tonight, stating "i love dairy!" one serving of dairy a day may be harder than no servings. we'll see.

today at lunch, landon made a fascinating discovery regarding small chip clips. he found out that if you put the handle end in your mouth, bite down, and then release it slightly, you can send the clip flying across the table. he had his cousins (and me) in stitches as he repeated this new feat over and over.

i allow landon to help me pick out the vegetable for supper (helps him to eat it better). tonight, i asked him what kind of veggie he wanted. he told me the red one. i was really confused since we have never had any red veggies (treating tomatoes as fruits). we went downstairs to the pantry, and i showed him all of his choices. he started crying and asked for the red veggies "like at the store." then he pointed to the lower portion of the pantry and said "down there." i opened it up and was amused by what he was refering to. he wanted the box of veggie tales fruit snacks. so..., we had those veggies, and then ate corn for supper.

smoothie blender has been a success so far. dave even took smoothies to his age of empires game night tonight. so far, i've made watermelon smoothies, apple cinnamon tea smoothies, and mocha java smoothies. dave drinks the mocha javas and i drink the others. the apple cinnamon tea one was really good. a side benefit from the watermelon smoothie was that i decided to pour all of the juice leftover in the watermelon rind (after sraping the fruit out) into an ice try and freeze it. the watermelon ice cubes are a really good treat! landon enjoyed eating one tonight.

well, i need to get to bed. 5:30 seems to be coming earlier and earlier (even though i know that is impossible).

strong will

praise: the kids took great naps this afternoon. the evening should be much nicer!!! i was able to purchase a shelf (from the bookstore) for our living room with some birthday money that i received. i've wanted this particular shelf for quite a while. also, i was able to get some other shelves at another store that were more than 60% off the retail. what a deal-hopefully it will all look okay.

prayer: we may be going to ohio this weekend. pray that we make the right decision and that we have safety if we should go. also, mom s. still needs to get a new car.

playfulness: auburn showed her strong will this morning. she decided not to do something that i told her to do. unfortunately for her, it was something i know that she can do on command-since she has been doing it well for over a week and a half now. she finally saw it my way and obeyed after about 10 minutes of not being able to do the things she wanted.

purchased a smoothie maker today. my husband has been raving about some iced coffees that my mom made up at the office. the maker was on sale today, plus i had an extra 15% off. so... i brought one home with me. hopefully my smoothie making skills will at least be comparable to my moms!!!!  =)

landon saw a laurel and hardy movie last night. i'm not sure if we laughed more at the movie, or at landon laughing at the movie. he thought it was great!

wow-am i behind!

praise: we had a wonderful week at family camp. bedroom accessories for landon's new room (coming this fall).

prayer: dave's brother, jon, had a stroke last tuesday. he is doing fairly well. still some issues-please continue to pray. (http://www.daveandnic.com/blog/default.asp?view=plink&id=210) my uncle ended up only having a double bypass because they were unable to do the third one. he was told that he needs to radically change his lifestyle. salvation would help.

playfulness: so much-so little time. i should really be cleaning my kitchen (again-ant problem). i feel like that's all i do anymore, clean the kitchen to keep the ants away.

we were over at some friends house on the 3rd and i was telling her of a dream i had the night before in which someone gave me bedding and accessories for landon's room. she startled and said "that's funny, because i was going to ask you if you wanted my son's stuff-we just re-did his room". as a result, landon has vehicle themed sheets, comforter, lamp, shelves, and picture frames for his new room. they will look very cute with his car bed. they'll still look cute when we put in his bunk beds.

we finally have all of our plumbing converted to copper-it's amazing how much more water pressure we have now!!!! my washer doesn't take as long as my dryer any more. =)

the kids and i stopped by the mcdonald's that i used to work out, and i was surprised to see the morning manager that i worked under (10 years ago) still there. when i told her that i had two kids in the back of the van-she said she new she was getting older and needed to retire, but knowing that i have kids re-emphasized it.

landon was so excited to go to family camp. every morning for the week before we left he would get up asking if we could go that day. one of the things he was looking forward to was the stop at the "cupcake store" on the way up. adults would know it as "great lakes crossing." it has a play place in the food court with large cushioned plastic food for the kids to climb over and run around.

while at family camp-one of the funniest moments was when we first arrived in our room and landon was investigating. he tried to open one of the doors to another section (where his cousins were) and asked, "is this where the kitchen is?" when we told him that we didn't have a kitchen-he started to cry. on the way back home from camp, we told him we were going to our house that has his car bed and he added "and our kitchen?!?" yes, he loves to eat.

another funny-i gave him a water bottle on the trip up to cobeac-which he squirted in his lap. we reminded him that he shouldn't do that because he would get soaked. after doing it accidently again, his comment was "i want un-soaked!"

yesterday, i asked landon if he was going on a growth spurt again (because he has been eating a ton). he answered yes. i then asked "when are you going to stop growing?" his response was very serious - "i'm going to stop growing when i'm four."

landon's been enjoying the video tarzan recently. today, he started to crawl around in a crouched position with his hands balled up into fists. what a goofy kid!

the other day, auburn saw landon's big toy dog for the "first" time. i say first in quotes, because she has seen it before, but this was the first time she had any idea what it was. she had recently had an encounter with a real dog. when she saw the toy, she froze and wimpered. we pulled it out and she cried as i helped her pet it. it took about 10 minutes before she was okay with it. now she says "dau-dau" and grunts if you ask her what a doggy says.

one of auburn's newest enjoyments of life has been wet wipes. she loves to carry one around and clean everything in site-even her brother!

in this picture she is cleaning landon's new house. the following pic is landon peeking out his window.

on the 24th my sister and her kids, my mom and the kids and i went to the detroit zoo (it was jordan's birthday). it was very hot-but we enjoyed it.

phillip and auburn in the stroller, then jordan, landon and jenna.

inside the polar bear exhibit.

auburn likes to peek out her window after she's done with her nap.

landon in uncle jon's shoes (when we were in ohio for the family reunion).

final comment for today's blog-landon declared today- "i love to be home!" i'm so glad he feels that way. it must not be such a "horrible" place after all!!!!  =)
