squirt

praise: the husband was able to get some sleep last night.

prayer: the husband's parents are coming up tomorrow for the day. pray for safety traveling.

playfulness: i have been trying to get the son to give his full name when he is asked for his name. yesterday, while practicing, i asked him what his name was and his reply was "squirt".

was able to get some very cute pictures taken of the kids today. hopefully we'll have them up soon.

i know that babies are often hard to distinguish whether they are boys or girls, but i find it very interesting that the son always was thought to be a girl and the daughter is always thought to be a boy. i'm not sure what that is saying about her looks!!! i try so hard to make her look "girly", but i have had people ask me what HIS name is even when she is in pink and has a pink blanket on her. always amazes me.

purchased the son a "horse head on a stick" thingy this morning (can't think of the correct name at the moment). he thinks it's cool, but can't quite get the hang of holding on and gallopping with it between his legs. he squeezes it with his knees and lets go with his hands and tries to hop. (with a smile so far)

house duties are beckoning...

puzzle frame

praise:  the son's head is free.

prayer: the husband started in-service this week and starts seminary on friday. jr. hi. classes begin on monday.

playfulness: the most recent event in our house was the rescue of the son's head. he was supposed to be in bed napping, but when i went in to put auburn down, i found him sitting behind the door with the frame of a puzzle around his neck. he looked up at me and said "i'm stuck". it was quite funny looking, but i have no idea how he got it on. we tried to get it off over his head, but it hurt too much. finally he said, 'i want it off this way" and then he pushed down. after some tugging and stuffing (the pudginess) we were able to get it off of him. he immediately crawled in bed, and i believe he is asleep because there is no sound on the monitor.

we have had a few more "toy story" phrases crop up in regular conversation. i blogged about the "ketchup" one last time.  here are the others: the son has for the past week or two been jumping around the house saying a jumble of sounds that we could not identify. the husband finally deciphered them: "infinity and beyond".  i guess the son things he's taking off like buzz does. the son has also recently been excited about having tea. it wasn't til i saw buzz (aka mrs. nesbit) drinking tea with hannah after his broken arm that i realized why this is so much fun now. the next phrase is "give me a hand' (when buzz throws his broken arm up to woody at the window).  the other day, the son and i were playing candyland and he said "give me a hand". he wasn't content until i put my hand in his.  the final thing is "use your legs". the son told the husband to "use your legs" the other day when he wanted him to get up. we thought he came up with the phrase on his own, until we saw the part where woody tries to get buzz to stand up and says "you gotta help me here, use your legs". even though he's getting these phrases from an "outside source", i'm glad to see that he can use some of them in correct context in other scenarios.

until the next adventure...

ketchup

praise: my dad, brother and the husband were able to clear much of the foliage out of the backyard last week. it looks much better. i also was able to talk to the person who owns the house next to us ( but doesn't live there) and obtained permission to rip out the fence and pull up the bush/tree that's growing on both sides of the fence.

prayer: we are all still sick to some degree. pray that we get better.  the husband has much to do, now that his teaching responsibilities have started back up.

playfulness: today, as the son was watching "toy story 1" he said "mom, i want some ketchup."  i was confused and asked him what he would like it on. his response was "buzz says that". it took me a while to figure out what he was talking about: buzz says "you go ahead, I'll catch up" when they were trying to catch the car after woody rescued buzz.

also today, the daughter had her first experience in the exi-saucer. she seemed to enjoy it. she stayed in about 10 minutes.

sleep walking?!?

praise: today was the first time that i watched my sister's kids all day as a "job." the kids have played great together, and have listened very well. i've even been able to be in the kitchen long enough to try a new recipe!

prayer: the son now has the runny nose (as well as the daughter).

playfulness: last night, the husband and i found the son laying on the steps (his body covering 3 or 4). we were upstairs working on some things and i guess he was coming up to find us. when we picked him up, he couldn't give us a decent answer to our questions. he just kept grunting. we kept laughing. guess you had to be there.

tried having story time with the 3 older kids today. landon couldn't remain on the couch through an entire page. guess we'll have to work on that one.

landon is also having to learn how to share since the girls are here for a longer period of time. it's easy to share if they're only here for a few hours-but 7 whole hours is a different story.

guesstures

praise: i got some of the tile up in the basement. i've been talking about doing it for about 3 weeks now.

prayer: the daughter has a cold, the son threw up this morning before sunday school, and i have a sore throat.

playfulness: yesterday was my mom's birthday. after going to pizza hut to eat, we all went over to the parents' house for cake and ice cream (which derek and amanda made-the cake was great!). after she opened her presents, the adults played guesstures-huge fun! we should do it more often. it's always very comical-especially when dad sits in the middle of the family room and pretends to take a bath.

well, i've got to go, stuffy is crying.

chunks

praise: the husband's parents made it safely home from their travels.

prayer: the son has been struggling with jealousy the past few days.

playfulness: today, i taught the son the fine art of eating apples - dip them in peanut butter!!!

yesterday, the son was determined to get "woody" to stay on his back for a horsey ride. it was cute watching him lay down, put woody on, then try to get up on all fours without woody falling. right now, he's throwing woody up on the counter top-saying "woody's up there" then getting him down. we have yet to figure it out, but the son likes to put woody's hat on him, then make him "dance around" and giggles. we think it might be that he is trying to copy "andy" on toy story when andy makes woody ride.  now woody's legs are around the son's neck with woody hanging down the son's back. the son just told him to "hang on". i love that woody doll-now the son plays by himself part of the day.

another one of the son's past times is playing with his "bug box". it's a wooden box covered with wire netting to catch bugs-one problem, he doesn't catch bugs with it. he likes to put a small chicken, monkey and giraffe in it. they are pieces broken off of a noah's ark music box. he puts the pieces in, then shakes them out of the small hole and repeats the process over and over and over again.

i have called the kids "chunks" in the past. this past saturday, the son said "auburn's a chunk, landon's a chunk, mommy's a chunk." later that evening, we were at my mom's house and he told her she was a chunk. thankfully, he doesn't really know what it means, so we don't have to take it personally! (even if it does apply)

we had the byers over the other day. after saying something to "miss amber", the son called daddy - "miss daddy".  that went over real well; we all laughed except the husband.

about a week ago, the son fell asleep in the daughter's car seat-sucking on her pacifier that he had found. yes, i got a picture of it. i can't wait to scrapbook all of his funnies.

the daughter is pushing her torso up and holding her head up real well now.  there will be new pictures up on the website soon. i got a metal clip in her hair yesterday after her bath. it stayed in until her hair dried-then it slipped out. so cute!!!!

well, gotta go for now-woody is going ni-night, per the son's instructions.

"i'm dripping"

praise: we did very well at the garage sale. i even get some of the money to scrapbook!

prayer: the husband's grandmother is not doing well; his parents went to virginia to help her and hopefully get her living arrangements squared away.

playfulness: this morning, the kids and i ventured out to the mall (which i won't do by myself again for a while). when we got in the car, i said, "let's get the air going, because it is pretty hot in here." the son's response: "pretty hot, I'M DRIPPING!"

the son was able to get a buzz lightyear with some of the proceeds from the garage sale. he has been playing with woody and buzz quite a bit.  last week the husband was asked to put deoderant on woody and to shave him too. (speaking of shaving, the son brought out the husband's razor this morning to shave mommy and his sister). the son also wanted to brush woody's teeth, so he has a child's paintbrush that he uses for both woody and buzz.
