funny comments

praise: we are all healthy.

prayer: landon is a bit concerned about 1st grade. he's "afraid it might be harder than mrs. hubbard's class."

playfulness: i will attempt to list a few funnies that i can remember from the past few months. most of the ones i remember are auburn funnies. she frequently uses the wrong word for items, and some of the things she comes up with are quite funny.

Auburn:
1. at a butterfly themed birthday party she attended, one of the games required of the girls to dress up as a certain object. when auburn told us the story afterward-she told us that she cried when they wanted her to dress up like a raccoon. i couldn't understand why that was so upsetting, so we kept talking about what a raccoon was, and why she should have tried to do it. a few days later, i was talking to the mom and found out that the girls were given a roll of toilet paper, and asked to wrap themselves up like a cocoon. the mom told me that you could just see the fear/tears rising in auburn as they began the activity, and then she couldn't hold it in any longer and just wailed.
2. auburn's class at church consists of about 10 girls and one regular boy. we were scheduled to work in the nursery during the evening service a few weeks back. upon learning this before we left for church, landon commented that there were only going to be girls to play with. auburn's response "you should've had a nap!"
3. after i took auburn to a wedding of a young lady in our church (also the only girl of 4 children), dave was commenting to auburn that he told the girl's mom that she wasn't going to get married. auburn looked at dave and said "but what if God wants me to?" dave was a little shocked by that comment!

Landon:
tonight at church, landon was in the main service with us for prayer time. dave went through the prayer sheet with him, and explained what to pray for in each section/situation. landon, while praying for a lady with a broken arm, prayed "please be with the lady who's arm BROKE OFF! help her as she had to get a fake arm." it was all i could do to keep it to a small snicker. i just wasn't prepared for that one, and with such intensity!

Dalton: he's two. he acts two. some of his more recent escapades (not including art on walls) were: 1. standing on the potty (with the lid closed) to do his duty, 2. dumping infant rice cereal in dave's glass, on the kitchen table, on the kitchen floor and down the basement stairs, 3. climbing up to the counter and pouring his own lemonade, 4. attempting to cut his own hair (or auburn's hair, 5. sneaking out of the gate and turning the water spicket on, 6. putting his arms around a sibling's neck then falling backwards putting them in a tight choke hold, 7. eating landon's "hidden" stash of candy, and the list could go on. you may wonder where i am during these times, most likely doing something with owen. i think dalton has some sort of sensor that sends him into mischief mode while i'm feeding, changing or putting the baby down for a nap.

Owen: he's pretty easy at this point. goes down around 9:30 and sleeps until 4 or 5. this is my first baby to do this! he's very smiley, and is working hard at getting his first two teeth. he's almost sitting up by himself. loves cereal and loves to grab my food (or anyone else's). he's 19 lbs., wearing 6-9 mo. clothes and a size 3 in shoes. he's going to be another big kiddo.

well, good night.

praise: landon made it to florida safely and is having a wonderful time!

prayer: owen's continued good health and adjustment.

playfulness: i haven't posted in forever...things have been quite busy around our home. all of the kids have changed so much over the past few months. landon is becoming a little more controlled-emphasis on little. he's reading better every week. auburn is out of her shell that she once was in. dave and i have commented several times that she must feel like she has to fill landon's shoes while he is gone-in regards to loudness, messiness, and movement. dalton is in his "terrible twos" and keeps me running from one mess to another. he prefers to create these messes while i am feeding owen. owen (as of monday) had gained back all the weight he had lost plus another 9 ounces-putting him at 8lbs. 4oz. i wish they had measured him-because he definitely did not look like 18.5 inches to me. he is spending about 2 hours in a row looking around in the morning-which is fun. he occasionally will give a half smile. he seems like he will be a happy little boy.

kids have said many funnies over the past several months but none are as funny as dalton's "potty-training" adventures. i have a paper somewhere around here with his incidents written down-but i cannot find it-so i will have to rely on my "mommy-brain".

here are the top four.

1. after wiping himself, he blew his nose-with the same tissue paper.
2. he fell off the potty sideways because he wanted to show me something in the toilet.
3. sat on the potty for 20 minutes, then stood up to do his duties, leaving much to be cleaned up.
4. as he was stepping up onto the stand to sit down-he slipped and fell in with his arm-up to his elbow.

today, auburn-who is almost 4-decided to try to go like the boys. she found out that it doesn't work so well for girls. she also had the privilege of giving owen his first bottle today. such a little mommy!

dalton is in love with monsters, inc. he frequently will tell you "shhh...mon'ters comin!" or "mon'ters! aaaaahhhhh!!!" with his hands up by his face, eyes and mouth wide open.

landon finished his sparks skipper book review, and is working on his skipper workbook. he's very excited about the possibility of getting a skipper pin for his vest.

mommy is trying to stay one step ahead of everyone, but not always succeeding. i'm feeling great after two weeks of recovery. many people have helped out, and i'm sure that plays into my ability to bounce back.

dave purchased me a dyson right before i had owen-so i haven't been able to use it yet. he has used it a few times-and it's amazing what that thing has picked up! i learned the hard way with previous babies why some doctors recommend refraining from vacuuming for a few weeks after delivery. although, i can't say that i've ever been bummed about that "rule" before! i was actually envying my dave's freedom to vacuum! =)

daddy is working, working, and helping out with things that i can't do. as well as, maintaining his consistent play time with the kids. dave is great about making sure that he spends time with each little one sometime during the day. thanks, hon!

well, i have Bibles to imprint-so i better get those done before kids are home and baby is awake!

here are some links to recent pics.
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=102229&l=49098&id=831615642

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=103647&l=ca28a&id=831615642

landon's decision

praise: landon supposedly "became a Christian" today.

prayer: please pray that his decision is for real and that we will see fruit in the years to come.

playfulness: i guess i should expand on the quotes around his decision. dave and i are not comfortable declaring to our son: do these things/pray this prayer and you are saved. landon has been asking for weeks, with growing frequency, if he can become a Christian. he knows the plan of salvation, he knows that he is a sinner, he knows that the sinless Christ died on the cross to pay for his sin, he knows that Christ is God's Son, he knows that he needs to obey God's commands, he knows... you get the picture. as a parent, NOT knowing how sincere a decision is...is difficult. dave and i both struggled with our childhood professions of faith when we reached our teen years. we don't want that for our kids-so we have put Landon off for a while. today, he pressed and pressed. as he told me when i came home from picking up prescriptions, and after he and dave talked, he said he asked God to forgive him and that he wanted to be on God's side. he will tell you that he is a Christian now. we are resting in the knowledge of-believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. as far as we can see-he believes, and has even acted on his belief as much as a five year old can...now to see fruit. on a encouraging note (for me), about 5 minutes after we talked about still sinning after becoming a christian, and still asking for forgiveness, he came up to me and said "mom i just did a doozy, but i asked God to forgive me..." then he told me what he did. please pray for our "little christian" as he seeks to be obedient-and please pray that he sincerely understands.

on a more frivolous note, pics from the past few weeks can be viewed here:
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=89931&l=1b9fe&id=831615642

(end of conversation)

i guess what amazed me was the method he used to figure it out. he can't formally count by 2's, but somehow his mind was able to group our hands in math facts that he knows-to figure out what he doesn't-so i'm assuming he did something like this in his head (2+2)+(2+2)+2=10. the end comment shocked me-i had no idea he was figuring out how many hands we had in the house. the whole situation made me laugh and smile.

landon's first day of kindergarten

praise: landon enjoyed his first day of school-and i didn't cry when we dropped him off!

prayer: landon is battling some allergy issues. because of them-he's not sleeping as well. he was a little weepy tonight-poor sleep and extra activities with school could really do him in!

playfulness: this post will be all about landon today. i do have some other great pics to put up-but who knows when that will happen. if you have facebook-you can see some of them there.

we started out the day with dave and landon going to get krispy kreme donuts. landon is in the afternoon class, so he was able to play some this morning before he had to get ready to head out the door. we've had to adjust our daily schedule some. usually we have lunch at noon-but landon's class starts at 12:15-so lunch had to jump an hour. anyway...the first few pics are obvious. of course, landon still has a difficult time looking at the camera and smiling at the same time.

getting out at school...

heading into the building...i don't think he looks like a kindergartener here-what do you think?

landon and his friend bryce. they ended up being together at the orange table in class. landon said they played at recess to-i guess they played vampires-nice.

into the chapel for "roll-call" and "kindergarten line-up".

daddy was able to capture a good smile.

this is the smile i got...

mrs. hubbard calling the students up to the line.

landon, trevor sherf and gracie wright. i went to high school with trevor's and gracie's dads. they were a year ahead of me. it's fun to see them all in school together.

here's the whole class (there are 12 in the morning and 12 in the afternoon). okay, left to right, mrs. hubbard, trinity, caleb, ?, bryce, luke, pearson, mya/bella (not sure who is which one), alice, landon, trevor and gracie. i went through elementary and high school with trinity's mom, luke's
dad and mom were my youth pastor/wife, and pearson's mom went to school
with me (5 years ahead of me) and also was my voice teacher in college.
this class is a great class. i'm really looking forward to this year.

they also took a silly face shot...

trevor was banging on landon's backpack the whole way out.

you can see landon's smile in this picture if you look closely. he never looked back once they started toward the door.

dave picked landon up after school and took him to wendy's for a treat. landon was very excited about his purple smelly sticker inside his folder. he also pointed out the "walkathon" on his calendar of events as soon as i pulled it out of his folder. sooo....if any of you are interested in sponsoring him....let me know! =) i guess he told dave about the discipline system quite quickly in their conversation at wendy's. dave and i both thought that was funny. of course, his favorite part was recess. here's a pic of landon coming home.

according to landon, mrs. hubbard told them before they left "i hope you all come back tomorrow, because i don't want to be here all alone." landon said he responded "of course, we're going to come back." we have no idea if he said it aloud, or in his head, but it was funny either way. she told dave and i that her biggest jobs of the day were going to be getting the kids to leave their supplies at school, and convincing them to come back. no problem with landon on the second one! actually, he was fine with the first one, too. we had prepped him to leave his stuff (since his cousin had a hard time leaving her tennis shoes when she went to kindergarten).

each of the students received a certificate today. (i actually got a good smile!)

the next pic is of landon talking to his friend, lydia. she and her family moved to kentucky last year so her dad could get his doctorate. when they come back in a year/two years, she will be in his class. he was filling her in on all of the fun of the day. (the vampires and such....)

totally unrelated to school: while landon was talking to lydia, he told her that his dad was going to get the materials to fix his bunk bed, and that he had been waiting a million years for them! he looks good for his age!

anway...all in all, it was a successful day.

birthday bash

we had the big family birthday bash this past saturday (also auburn's real birthday). let's just say, the weather wasn't as bad as it could have been. it didn't rain during the party time. i've determined that i can plan events-but don't ask me to execute them. i'll leave that part up to someone else. =)

anyway-the following picture shows what the kids found when they woke up in the morning (there were more packages added to them once all the relatives arrived). it looked like christmas-without the green and red paper.

auburn had a few more since it was her actual day. she was allowed to open her big box in the morning. she woke up about 30 minutes after landon did-and her sleeping in drove him nuts!! he kept asking if we would get her up/when she was going to get out of bed.

here are the cakes that we had. i made the princess one, and my mom borrowed the r2d2 pan from a friend to make landon's cake.

we had quite the crowd-even my grandparents made it up for the event. i think they loved seeing all the great-grandkids, and we loved seeing them.

in the background on the left side of the previous pic-you can see the middle pole of the canopy that we borrowed. we didn't have all of the right parts to make the center pole useful-so...amanda, mom and i came up with our own method of making it work. we stuffed a stick down in one part and up in another since they wouldn't join, then we surrounded the non-joining parts with more sticks, a tall piece of lumber and packing tape. believe it or not-it held just fine. oh-we also put 2 bags of topsoil around the base to hold it steady. dave started singing "what this world needs is a few more rednecks..." =)

kids received a new swingset for one of their gifts.

they also received a "truckload" of other gifts-to many for me to list. they thoroughly enjoyed the day. thank you family for making it so special for them! =)

after i posted the pictures of auburn, i scrolled through the last few posts and realized there is very little of my lan-man up on my blog. he has just grown up so much this past year. he doesn't do as many silly things, or new things like he used to as a result. i can't believe that he is turning 5 one week from today. okay-i'm starting to get sentimental. i almost felt like crying there for a second. anyway...kindergarten round-up is just around the corner. he's excited, but i think he is starting to become a little nervous about it. so am i!!!! =)

here are some pics. in this first one, landon had decided that it was a good idea to rub red popsicle all over his face. i was taking care of dalton, and i returned to the kitchen to find him like this. i guess he was trying to be darth maul! =)

he still loves his star wars things!!! next friday, he's having his first friend birthday party-and yes, it will be a star wars theme.

dave will roll his eyes at this...but...here's landon the detective going "under cover" (ha ha).

even though he's crawling through the grass-i just think he looks so big physically in this picture. he comes up to about three inches below my shoulder, and he weighs half my weight. we are predicting him to pass me by the end of second grade.

of course, i have more pics, but i need to go to bed. have a great night!

He is all over the place. He was doing pretty well last weekend at mom smith's, and i said to dave that he would probably be walking by the end of the week. dave and i agreed tonight that we could officially say he's on his own-not just attempting. tonight dave was sitting on the recliner and i was on the loveseat-dalton kept walking back and forth between the two of us-loving every moment of it. i love watching him toddle around-it's so cute! i know that he's not quite one, but i wish he could move up to the toddler one room at church. he loves to be mobile-oh well-i know i just need to be patient. he'll get there.

this reminded me of something i wanted to say about dave. one of our friends told us about these bracelets that a church down south (i think) is making and sending out for free. they're supposed to be worn to remind the wearer not to complain or speak in a way that is grumbling/negative. dave ordered 5-for our whole family. i love that he is concerned about our spiritual well-being. be watching for our purple bracelets!

praise: i am not hurt.

prayer: dave isn't feeling too well.

playfulness: this isn't really playful-last night i had my purse stolen in the kroger parking lot. some would say that i was mugged. i was walking around my van digging my cell phone out of my purse when little miss chickie-poo walked up to me and shoved me-taking my purse at the same time. yes, i had parked in the very front, and yes i was right under the light-but that didn't stop her. yes, there were witnesses-but she was determined. when i tried to pull my purse back, she whipped something shiny out-at which point i decided to let her keep my purse. I didn't need that purse anyway!!! =) thankfully-she didn't get much cash. i stayed up late last night canceling all of my credit cards. (which, by the way, i will be carrying far fewer of them from now on). she did get some gift cards-that bummed me out. oh well. my biggest consolation has been that God knew what was going on. He was not watching thinking "how is this happening?" isn't great that we can trust an all-knowing God even when something ugly happens? so...ladies...don't go shopping late at night all by yourself. i have done my shopping at night since dalton was born-so i didn't have to drag the kiddos with me. anyone want a shopping buddy?!?

have a good (and safe) day!

praise: warmer weather is not far off! my friend, marcia, had her little girl yesterday. elizabeth joy was born around 2:30, weighing in at 7lb. 13oz. and 21 in. long.

prayer: kiddos all have some degree of ickiness.

playfulness: i know it has been a while since i blogged-so this is going to be a long one. i'll tell the stories before i post pictures so i don't forget.

1. auburn was eating a banana when she came upon a brown spot. her assessment: "it's poop!"
2. i made my first call to poison control-auburn ate hand soap.
3. landon was talking about the three rooms in the basement. this is how he labeled them: playroom=kids room, studio=dad's room, laundry room=mom's room.
4. i was going in for some work on my tooth two weeks ago, and i explained to landon that i might not feel very well when i got home. he responded with great care and concern-"are you still going to make supper?"
5. on a better note for landon-i've watched the sand girls a few times recently. one of the times landon pulled out his book about salvation that he made in sunday school and started witnessing to ellie. that was fun to listen to.
6. dave was asking auburn if she wanted to stay home or go with him to the library, dalton interjected with a very clear sounding "go!" of course, we know he didn't know what he said-but it was funny.
7. a lady called my cell phone a week ago-very irate with me for repetitively text-messaging her daughter. i tried to explain to her that i was not the one doing it. she wouldn't listen and kept telling me that she was going to turn me into the police. i finally hung up on her. she proceeded to call me three more times in 5 minutes-finally leaving a voice message. her voice message was an apology, stating that she had the wrong phone number and asking if i would please answer her next call so she could apologize directly to me. i answered and all was set straight. right before our conversation was about to end she asked if she could ask me another question. i said she could, she said "your nicole smith, right?" (yes) "i thought you were dead!" (you must have me confused with someone else, nicole smith is a common name. -as i'm explaining this, she interjects) "you're not anna-nicole smith!" i about died trying to keep from exploding in laughter at her. yes-i'm anna-nicole smith, back from the dead with a cell phone that says "hi, you've reached the smiths and nicole smith of avon! and i've been text-messaging your daughter for days!

now for some pictures:

dalton is everywhere now. the first few will be of him.

he loves to sit on his knees.

dalton loves to vacuum, he chases me down while i'm cleaning.

i've started flipping auburn's hair out when we go to church and other functions. she loves to have her hair curled.

we borrowed some bows from a friend-because i had no idea what to do with auburn's hair for some pictures we were having done with the cousins. dave didn't like so we didn't use it, but what do you think-is it her?

this picture was to be of auburn sleeping at the table-not of landon's goofy face!

auburn put one of her play hats on dalton's head-he wasn't real thrilled with it.

dave got these handcuffs for spirit week-landon locked up his dog.

this get-up was another one of dave's purchases for spirit week.

landon constructed this boat all by himself.

landon just got these batman pjs-so he dressed up "white charlie" as superman so they could play together.

dave took the kids outside to play one afternoon. they loved it!

dave took landon out to lunch on valentines day. they came home with flowers for auburn and i. landon picked out auburn's and dave, mine.

have a great night!
